The Four Priorities of the Because I Am a Girl Campaign

Peter Kuperman

Peter Kuperman serves as CEO of Hatch Canada, an education company which teaches children the basics of computer science as well as how to code and create their own programming portfolios. In addition to his work duties, he provides support for multiple organizations that work in the field of human rights. One of the organizations that Peter Kuperman supports is Plan International and its Because I Am a Girl campaign.

The global Because I Am a Girl campaign aims to reconfigure power relations between men and women everywhere to empower women as leaders and decision makers. The campaign has four main priorities for girls worldwide. The first is that all girls have access to quality and safe education, as well as access to lifelong learning opportunities.
The second priority concerns leadership. The campaign wants all young women to have the right to take part in the politics of their local communities and their countries, and to have the confidence to stand up for their beliefs.
The third priority is to give young women the choice of when to marry and start a family. Around the world, 15 million girls are married before their 18th birthday each year and 2 million girls under the age of 15 give birth. Fourthly, the campaign envisions a world where girls live free from discrimination and the threat of physical or emotional violence.
